Dewitt was arrested and charged with sexual battery of a child victim in March. She was booked with three counts for actions authorities believe happened when she was a position of trust of a victim who was 16 at the time. The arrest came after an extensive investigation of a complaint alleging Dewitt was in a position of trust or authority when the sexual activity occurred. According to Sheriff Ricky Adam, the sexual activity between female teacher and her student was sporadic.

Police began investigating alleged sexual abuse of another teen girl after  a girl's mother signed a complaint against Dewitt, alleging the incident occurred in May 2012. Now also Pearl River County authorities have charged Leslie Danielle DeWitt with touching a student for lustful purposes.

Leslie Dewitt was an assistant for the Hancock Lady Hawks basketball team but left that job after the 2010-11 school year. She became the girls coach and a special education teacher at Pearl River Central High in 2012, but reportedly resigned in January.
